Today's headline of the "respected" Philippine Daily Inquirer screams precisely that!

Black, who?

Jack Black? LOL :-)

Shameful and tabloidish!

Why not "Obama takes White House" instead?

Pinoy mainstream media haven't really digested what Obama's rise to power means. True, Obama is black, but there is more to his being black in his ascent to the US Presidency.

they wanted to focus on his race, being the first black (african american) US president. Its catchy. a bit tabloid-like, yes, but the inquirer has always been so. your proposed headline is a bit generic. nothing wrong w generic, but his being black is a legit point to make.

If their point was that Barack Obama is the first black U.S. President, they could just have put the word "FIRST."

It says the same thing without sounding silly. "Black in White House?"

Who's that, Norman Black? Bad, bad, headline. They missed an opportunity to come up with a memorable line for a such a historic moment.

My former journalism professor must be so glad he's writing for the Philippine Star and not the Inquirer.

If wI wrote something like this in his class he would have probably made me eat my Blue Book!

Leonard Co (1953-2010), Filipino botanist

With much sadness and shock I learned from WWF chair Lory Tan that internationally renowned botanist Leonard Co was killed together with a guide and a forest ranger last Monday, 15 November in a firefight in Leyte between Armed Forces of the Philippines soldiers and Communist guerrillas. How should we remember General Antonio Luna?

Well it seems with that proposal to rename Camp Aguinaldo to Camp Antonio Luna in time for National Heroes Day has generated a lot of social media buzz. We really have to really understand our national heroes. Antonio Luna was a remarkable personality but like all of us was flawed. He likely would be an academic had the revolution not intervened. He would have been the first Dean of a College of Science of the Philippine University had the nation made the transition to indepe ndence in a peaceful manner. That was recognized by the American College of Pharmacy when they feted Dr Luna on what would have been his 60th birthday noting his work in combating malaria. But that was not to be.
