A beach at the world center of marine biodiversity

Laiya San Juan Batangas lies near Tayabas Bay. This is the area previously identified by Professor Kent Carpenter of Old Dominion University as the area having the highest number of marine species per unit area in the world.

Research in the area dates back a hundred years ago when US scientists with the Bureau of Science did their first surveys in 1907-1908.

Despite the environmental degradation of the last 100 years. The shore still has its surprises.
